The Lockehaven Concept Description of The Property Furnishings and Amenities Dining at Lockehaven Comparing The Otter and Eagle Suites	We moved into the house on January 31, 2004 and soon thereafter started a massive renovation, to not only create a dream home for our own use, but also to create two suites specifically designed to be attractive as full-featured, high-end Vacation Suites. After 2 years of construction, this renovation was completed at the end of June, 2006. We have both done extensive renovations to other residences and we have travelled to many places around the world for business, vacation and adventure. With the renovation and equiping of Lockehaven, we have had the opportunity to create our idea of the ideal place to stay while visiting Vancouver, whether for pleasure or business or both. Noting the popularity of the outdoor hot tub for the Eagle Suite in our first year of operation, in November of 2007 we installed a second hot tub for the Otter Suite, down in the waterfront yard. Our concept is to allow visitors to have a real West Coast experience with up-close proximity to the ocean and mountains, while enjoying ready access to the tourist attractions and business life in the heart of the city of Vancouver. We invite you to come and enjoy this wonderful experience with us.
The Lockehaven Property	We fell in love with this property, partly for the proximity to the water and magnificent views and partly because it is remarkably secluded and quiet, considering it is so accessible to the city. A 200 foot (60 meter) high hill behind the house blocks virtually all noise from the city. It is at the end of a 300 foot single lane tree-lined driveway that is shared by only one neighbour. There are no houses to the immediate left or right of our house and the lot has 77 feet of waterfront. Because we are located on a slight point of land, the views span over 180 degrees. The 5 knot (9 km/hour) speed limit on the waters of Deep Cove limits the noise from power boats.
Layout of the House	As you can see from the photographs above, the house is built in three levels on a steep slope. The Otter Suite occupies almost all of the lowest level and the Eagle Suite occupies about half of the top level. The main (mid) level is for our private use, except when we serve breakfast each morning in our main dining area or on our deck. Each suite has its own private entrance off the exterior decks and the internal doors to the rest of the house are normally locked off from both sides. Please note that this site may not suitable for those who have difficulty with stairs. From the parking area above the house, it is 21 steps down to reach the Eagle (Upper) Suite and it takes a total of 52 steps (including the upper and main level landings) to reach the Otter (Lower) Suite, using the external staircase.

Dining While Staying at Lockehaven Breakfast Served by Your Hosts in the Dining Room or Self Catering in Your Suite or 15 Minute Walk to Local Cafes Serving Breakfast	At Lockehaven you have the option of either having breakfast served in the hosts' dining area or "self-catering", at a lower nightly rate, which means you supply you own breakfast. The self-catering option allows you to either sleep in or get up and pursue the day's activities earlier. Guests are able to have anything they wish to eat at any time at Lockehaven - for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks, by either bringing prepared meals from local restaurants or purchasing ingredients at local supermarkets and preparing meals in their well equipped in-suite kitchenettes or on their outdoor barbeques.

In-Suite Kitchenettes	Both the Otter and Eagle Suites have in-suite kitchenettes that are separate from the bedrooms and are equipped with: kitchen counters, sinks and cabinets 9 cubic foot refrigerator with freezer sets of cutlery and dishes for 6 people cookware and cooking utensils microwave, toaster oven, toaster, automatic coffee maker, blender. electric frying pan (skillet) The Otter (Lower) Suite has a dishwasher An electric barbeque is available for cooking outside on your deck
Taking Advantage of "Self-Catering"	The secret to enjoying Self-Catering at Lockehaven is to make it as easy as possible - both for the meal preparation and the clean-up. The in-suite kitchenettes have all the equipment you need to produce simple or gourmet meals quickly, with very little effort. One option is to purchase complete portion-size frozen meals that are ready to just heat in either the microwave or toaster oven and serve. Very little effort is required and the cooking time can vary from 5 minutes with the microwave to 40 minutes for the toaster oven. The Safeway Supermarket at Parkgate has a variety of such frozen meals, such as the "Lean Cuisine" series. Another good source for these is at the M & M Meatshop in Parkgate, which specializes in selling this type of product, including a variety of single portion gourmet items. Local Restaurants/Cafes for Breakfast	The following 3 restaurants are on Gallant Avenue, about a 15 minute walk from Lockehaven Honey Doughnuts and Goodies Serenity Turtle Lounge Bistro and Coffeebar Calvins - Also recommended is Calvins, on Mt. Seymour Parkway, just across the road from Parkgate Mall. This is about a 3 minute drive from Lockehaven.
In-Suite Offices Otter Suite Office	Both of the suites have Office areas separate from the bedrooms with the following: Desk with file drawer space PC desktop computer with Microsoft Windows XP and Office software Laser printer High speed Internet (ADSL) service Internet access for your laptop computer, either through the high speed wireless network, by ethernet connection to the computer provided or by dialup over a shared conventional telephone line. We can send and receive faxes for you from our office
In-Suite Telephone and Fax Lines, With Free or Low-Cost Long Distance Rates	Each suite has its own dedicated telephone line and telephone number, with free long distance calling to anywhere in Canada or the US. This telephone service utilizes VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology to access the telephone network over our ADSL high speed Internet service. Rates to land-lines in many industrialized countries are relatively low ($0.02 per minute) and for moderate usage in such cases we do not bother to charge you. If you plan to make overseas calls, please inquire. Caution - calls to mobile (cellular) phones outside the US and Canada can be expensive (e.g. $0.50 per minute), although likely much cheaper than using your mobile phone from such a country here and having to pay high roaming charges.
Room Cleaning and Linens Change	At Lockehaven, we anticipate that you value your privacy and we respect this by staying out your suite, entering it only when we clean it once every 2 weeks, or after first asking your permission or in case of an emergency. Extra towels and linens and garbage removal are available at any time on request. We do need to inspect and service both of the hot tubs every two days.
Self-Serve Use of Shared Laundry	A laundry room off the common deck on the lower level has a high capacity washer and dryer that is available for guests in both suites at no cost on a shared basis.
Overview and Comparison of the Two Suites (10 square ft = 1 sq meter)	Both of the suites are large for B and B accomodation and are more like one-bedroom apartments. They both have stunning panoramic views of the waters of Deep Cove and the mountains, from both inside the suites and from their outside decks.
Eagle Suite Details	The Eagle Suite, occupying about 430 square feet of the top level of the house, the smaller of the two suites, is noted for the private hot tub on its 300 square foot outside deck, which is reserved for the exclusive private use of the Eagle suite guests. Otter Suite Details	The Otter Suite is significantly larger than the Eagle Suite, with about 600 square feet of interior space and a 400 square foot outside deck. Because it is on the lowest level of the house, is nearest to the water and it has so much window area, the views from inside the suite are spectacular. There is even a view of the water while relaxing in the extra deep soaker bathtub, if you leave the bathroom door open while taking a bath. In the waterfront yard, only a few steps away from the Otter Suite bedroom, there is a 6 place hot tub for the use of guests in the Otter Suite.
